This is just another example of the author trying to make a connection between the Catholic Church and all other evils that exist in the world.There are bad Catholics within the Church just as there are bad non-Catholics in other denominations. If one is truly promoting the Gospel message, as the author claims to be doing, then he should not condemn the whole Church for the actions of the few. If that were the case, Judas would have sealed the fate for all of the Apostles.
